Welcome

2010 saw several changes being introduced at the Fiji School of Medicine, one of which is the merger into the Fiji National University.  Under this banner, the Fiji School of Medicine and the Fiji School of Nursing merged to be collectively known as the College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences. Both institutions strive towards Excellence in Training and Education of Health Professionals in the South Pacific.

As the premier medical institutions in the South Pacific, both FSM and FSN have been educating Health Care Professionals since their establishment in 1885 and 1893 respectively. The Schools have produced many motivated and skilled health care professionals who are now serving in key positions in the South Pacific and overseas.

The schools provide training in health science disciplines including medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, radiography, laboratory technology, public health, dietetics and environmental health.

Pilot study a breakthrough for Medical Laboratory Science

A pilot study on Molecular-based detection of the gastrointestinal pathogen Campylobacter jejuni is being conducted by Ms. Aruna Devi as part of her PhD research. New Program Marks Milestone for Nursing School

The launch of the new bachelor in nursing program at the College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences [CMNHS] marks a milestone not only for the College but for nurses and nursing in Fiji. Speaking at the launch last Friday, Director Nursing Services Mrs. Silina Waqa-Ledua said the launch was a major breakthrough in nursing education as they embark on upgrading the undergraduate nursing qualification to the Bachelors level.

Operational Research Targets TB

With funding assistance from the Global Fund, a seminar on Tuberculosis Operational Research was presented in partnership with the Fiji Ministry of Health and the College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences at its Pasifika Campus last week. Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that is caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. TB primarily affects the lungs, but it can also affect organs in the central nervous system, lymphatic system, and circulatory system among others.
